Garage Door Tips

from: Maxx Home Guides

If you're in the market for a new garage door, you'll discover the new generation is priced reasonably along with being safe and easy to install. If your garage door is getting old or has one of those old motor or pulley system, perhaps is time to consider getting a new one.

You can select a garage door by the type of chain system it uses: screw-driven system, chain driven system or computer controlled. The screw drive system has a mechanism that moves the length of a steel rod; it's a lifting mechanism mounted in your garage ceiling. The chain drive system consists of a chain that moves the door along a pair of tracks, which is the most popular as well as affordable system, with the disadvantage of being quite noisy. The computer drive mechanism has no screws or chains as the system's body is mounted above the door.

Speed and type of power are additional factors to consider when selecting your new garage door. If you want a faster door, it's going to be more expensive, but it will reduce your waiting time on. However, even though it opens quickly, these doors usually close slowly for safety's sake. The motor's power is important when selecting your door since it needs enough power to raise the door; so a large motor will tend to last longer. Also consider the quietness of the motor as another factor in choosing the right system for you.

You'll find enhanced security features in new generation doors that use random codes. A new random code is generated each time the remote control is used to open the garage door which prevents you from opening another garage door and vice versa. These are available in several models with a different numbers of buttons. A multiple button remote control is your best choice, especially if you have several garages. The fixed controller is mounted on the wall either inside or outside, near the garage door so the garage door can be opened without a remote controller. The keypad allows you to close the door a specified amount of time, which is enough to exit without having to run.

Every door has safety features present that prevent the door from crushing objects or people by reversing direction if it hits an object. This feature is triggered by an electronic beam and it's required by law.
