Riding Lawn Mower Safety Tips

from: Maxx Home Guides

A riding lawn mower with reverse levers has caused gruesome accidents in back-over tragedies. These disasters will continue to grow if parents and manufacturers don't make changes to the situation. Children have been killed, mutilated, and crippled from the blades turning as a family member backed up on a riding lawn mower. Help organizations have gathered to ignite awareness among parents and confront manufacturers for the reverse capabilities. As a parent, you can protect your child or others from experiencing such an accident.

Know where your children are and don't use the reverse lever of your riding lawn mower. Unless someone is watching your child, children are in danger if they're in the yard while you're using a riding lawn mower. Your child may follow a toy into the blades behind your mower if you're not paying attention.

It's therefore important to keep children indoors so this cann't happen; few parents can hear a child's laughter or movements while the motor is roaring. Let your child know that it's dangerous to play near mowers so they'll remember.

If possible, try to avoid using the reverse function on your mower. The noise of the motor may distract you from paying acute attention to what's behind you. Try to drive forward at all times with an eye on all of your surroundings. Toys, rocks, and other pebbles may be on your lawn without your knowing.

The worst episode that could hurt more than a back over accident is if a rock conflicts with the blade and hurts someone in the yard. If you're within a closed area, tell your family to remain in the house while you cut the yard.

Manufacturers are enduring legal battles by families experiencing pains from child death due to a riding lawn mower. Families protest that manufacturers have been aware that such dangers can happen while operating the mowers. And still, they continue to build mowers with reverse capabilities. As a parent, be aware of your mower’s functioning and keep your child safe.
