Why Choose Metal Roofing Materials?
from: Maxx Home GuidesIf you're in the process of selecting the roofing for your new home, metal is one of the best choices you can make as it's an excellent roofing material. Houses and buildings throughout the United States and Canada are roofed with metal in creative styles, and bright colors using various types of metal. Metal is used for many reasons wit durability the most important and the main reason so many people choose metal for their roof.
Metal roofing materials come in many types and sizes. Some are shaped according to the specification of the buyer and others are painted in bold colors that help gives the building a distinctive look and makes it quite attractive.
Aluminum is one of the most commonly used metal roofing materials because it's lightweight, which makes a manageable installation. This material can stand normal weather conditions, so it lasts longer than any other metal. However, be aware that severe conditions with strong gust winds can cause this material to tear off easily. On the other hand, aluminum is one of the most affordable materials and easy to maintain.
Another metal roofing material is galvanized iron and, similar to aluminum, is lightweight. It has a strong resistance against corrosion and fire. Galvanized iron, or GI sheet, is reasonably priced, which makes it a better alternative for a simple, yet strong, roofing system.
One of the oldest types of metal roofing materials used for centuries is copper. With the advent of modern technology, copper's prominence has been challenged. Its dominion over any other roofing material has become less popular because homeowners and business owners want a material that's light, unlike copper.
It's interesting to note that copper still does have a number of followers. Old churches are still roofed with copper; posh houses in high-end subdivisions have copper roofs and this is mainly because only copper can give that green patina effect no other metal can give. Copper is also very hard wearing and can last for more than 30 years with proper maintenance.
Steel, though very heavy like copper, is another one of the best metal roofing materials used by industrial plant owners. Homeowners don't usually use steel for their roof because of its heavy weight makes it difficult to install and, in addition, steel metal roofs are very expensive, especially stainless steel.
You can purchase metal roofing materials as either corrugated or flat. Some are in slate form others are shingles. Some are already coated and painted, while others are plain. So, when you're choosing your roofing material, keep in mind that metal roofing is, not only beautiful, but will last for a long time with good maintenance.
