Here's Your Roofing FAQ

from: Maxx Home Guides

If you're planning to either build a new home or renovate your current house, you'll need to gather together a lot of information on how to go about your initial construction or renovation. One important considerations in either cse is roofing. This is one of the major parts of a home and plays an important role in the structural framework of a building.

You'll likely be swamped with lots of questions about roofing and can search for information with a professional consultation to help you better understand how to get your plans off the ground properly. Here's a few roofing FAQs you'll need to know.

What is the best type of roof? This is the first question that comes to mind when planning to build or renovate a home. However, there really is no definitive answer to this question. Since there is such a wide variety of roofing products and materials avaialbe, the best type of roof is dependant on a lot of different factors. Thus the answer to this question depends on your personal taste and preference. So review your options and make your decision based on careful research and consulation with roofing professionals.

When is the best time to install a new roof? This FAQ can be understood in two ways. One, it could refer to the best time of the year to actually install a new roof, or, it could be interpreted as knowing when a roof has failed and requires replacment. Regarding the first reference, the best time to do an installation is on days when rain and wind frequency isn't at a peak. Rainy seasons are definitely not a good time to do any roofing work.

In tropical areas, summer is a good time to install your roof. If the construction falls on rainy days or days with strong wind pressure, then choose a roofing material that can withstand the weather conditions.

When do you know if the roof needs to be changed? If your roof leaks, determin if it's a minor leak or a situation that will require a complete replacement. Monitor the leaking problem, and if it's an ongoing situation, then it’s probably time to replace the entire roof. However, if determine the leak is only caused by flashings that have come loose, a needed repair should do.

How long should a roof last? This roofing FAQ pertains to the security and durability of the roofing structure of your home. The lifespan of a roof is determined by a number of factors such as appropriateness of the roofing material used, proper installation, climatic and weather conditions, and level of maintenance. According to roofing experts, a roof should last an average of 20 years at a minimum.
