Securing Your Metal Siding
from: Maxx Home GuidesFor most people, theri home is their biggest investment. Therefore as a wise investor, your home should be maintained in the best condition possible. If you've installed metal siding in your front wall or on the roof and you live in an area with harsh winds, it's even more important that you take care of your investment.
Choosing metal siding is easy provided you know exactly what to consider. The main concern is how to make your metal siding more secure and resistant to wear and tear from extreme weather. For it to do its part, it's important to install it properly.
When metal siding isn't installed in the best and safe way possible, harsh winds can cause damage. If the siding isn't attached securely to the frame of your home, they will tend to lift off by the force created by high winds. When this happens, expect then to see your entire home panel wearing out.
It's thus critical that you check and double check that the metal siding installed are secure and properly attached to the frame of the structure. You can secure them using screws and fasteners or even bolts or some clips that are concealed to keep them in place. However, when clipping or screwing metal siding, the space required to keep the materials in place will vary depending on how strong they're made.
The design of your siding could also affect the spacing of the siding fasteners. Generally, the spacing of the fasteners should be closer to the edges of the panels. For many, that's the acceptable standard for installing metal sidings.
It's also important to understand that when installing metal sidings, the edges and corners of the materials should be secured with a molding or metal cap. You can place this as a form of covering for the edges of your siding. This is often recommended as molding can greatly help to obtain a more secure and wind resistant siding. If this kind of support is present in your metal siding, it's impossible for a harsh wind to work its way beneath.
You should be able to secure your metal siding in a few hours. However, if you're not a professional installer, you should leave the work to the experts.
