Choosing the Right Vinyl Siding Colors

from: Maxx Home Guides

Choosing the your vinyl siding color is an opportunity to use your creativity with this home remodeling project. Since you'll have to live with the final decision for many years, make sure you fully explore all the possibilities available.

Vinyl siding comes in lots of colors and hues and isn't just limited to the usual five pastel colors. Developers and producers of vinyl siding have developed these colors to give homeowner the opportunity to come up with their own unique look that stands out from other homes int he neighborhood.

However, it's common for vinyl siding to be light in color. The main reason is that vinyl siding will soak up the heat and darker colors tend to retain more heat. If vinyl siding gets too hot, there's a possibility it will clasp and deform. Thus lighter colors are usually chosen for vinyl siding, which means you the chance to create your best color. If you want to enhance the look of your vinyl siding, you can paint, but it's best not to use a color that is a lot darker than the actual shade of your siding.

When determining the right vinyl siding colors, keep in mind that it should be harmonious to the style of your home. A home with a traditional Cape Cod effect may look perfect with a color combination that is more subtle. On the other hand, a home built in a Victorian style may appear best with a more dramatic selection of shades.

Once you've done some research about the right colors for different types of home styles, try to look further at how your home will appear with a lighter color. It's said that lighter colors are perfect it you want to see your home appear larger than normal. This has nothing to do with the actually area covered, but this effect occurs when incorporating a lighter vinyl siding color to your property. Also, the lighter shades create the impression of a house closer to the lot front, but this is only works if your home is located with enough space from your neighborhoods.

Now that you've thought about lighter colors, the next step is to picture your home with a darker vinyl siding color. Darker colors will yield the opposite effect than a lighter color. Your home may appear to be farther back on a lot and smaller in size. If that's the effect you want, then go with darker hues.

Finally, consider adding some sort of trim for particular vinyl siding colors. When choosing the trims, look for those that don't match the shades of your sidings, but go with your home accents. Look at your entry ways or porches, if you have them.
