What You Need to Know Abut Aluminum Siding
from: Maxx Home GuidesAluminum siding has been installed on many houses since about the 1950’s. Many homes in America have aluminum siding and its durability and anti corrosive properties make aluminum siding a great choice for any home owner looking to upgrade their existing exterior or choosing a siding option for their home being built.
Here are some great tips on aluminum siding.
Aluminum siding is one of the most popular exterior siding options and there are lots of reasons why. Aluminum siding is very durable, requires only a little maintenance and is quite affordable for most home owners. Aluminum siding is also a great choice for roofing because aluminum siding has many anti corrosive properties.
Aluminum siding comes in almost any color and fits just about any style home. Since aluminum is metal it needs to be painted. You can find paint in any color to easily make your aluminum siding fit your decor. Due to the need to paint aluminum, it does require maintenance every ten years or so. However, many home owners are very happy with the lower maintenance requirements of aluminum compared to other types of siding such as wood.
Aluminum is also a very strong material. Many contractors say that aluminum siding is about twenty times stronger than most wood siding. This makes aluminum an excellent material to use when siding your home.
Aluminum is very affordable and costs much less than wood siding and is very comparable with vinyl siding. Aluminum siding is also very easy to install. Most contractors who install aluminum siding will come to your home and actually shape the metal on site. Aluminum siding is very easy to fit your existing home and working with aluminum is very easy.
Aluminum siding does have some negatives. For one, aluminum siding does tend to dent, have dings and can have dips within the siding. While these issues can be fixed they're the major weakness most home owners don't like. Most dents in aluminum can be fixed by drilling a hole in the center of the dent area and pulling out the dent, sort of like car body work. Once the dent is pulled out, you can fill it up with body filler and add touch up paint, it should be unnoticeable.
Aluminum siding does need to be painted. Many home owners will usually paint their siding about every ten years or so. While aluminum doesn't require lots of maintenance like wood, many home owners don't like the fact they'll have to hire someone or paint their home themselves.
While aluminum is very popular, vinyl siding has gained the lead as the top siding option for homes. For most people vinyl provides the home owner with less maintenance because it doesn't need to be painted and doesn't dent or ping easily.
However if you're looking for an incredibly strong material that resists the elements and can be painted in practically any color, aluminum siding is an excellent option.
