Installing Interior Window Shutters
from: Maxx Home GuidesMost people tend to do everything they can to postpone home improvement projects. Often this is due to their apprehensive about tackling decorating tasks because they lack experience or believe it's too complicated. Of course, this is understandable, but with some research, you'll be able to add your own personal touch to your home plus save a lot of money if you can avoid hiring a contractor.
When it comes to installing interior window shutters, even someone with no experience should be able to handle the job of intalling. Interior shutters are widely used window treatments because they're both elegant and complement the overall look of your home. In addition they adjust light, provide insulation and fit in any decorating scheme. Choosing interior shutters is a great decorating idea because are they an inexpensive window treatment and will do wonders for any room.
Here are some great tips to help amateurs put up interior window shutters:
You can choose from two types of materials for interior window shutters, wood and vinyl. Wooden shutters are more popular because they provide a warm and homey look. Vinyl is usually available in very light shades thus limiting your choices to match the colors to your interiors. Vinyl materials are ofen made from inexpensive components and poor quality. Although they're much cheaper, the best choice is wooden shutter.
Measure the opening of your window where you plan to install the shutters first. If you'll be mounting the interior window shutters on the jamb, you'll have to determine the exact height and width across the frame of the window. Be sure the jamb is solidly installed so you can screw on the interior window shutters.
It's advised to use hanging strips if you're planning to install a cafe-type shutter. The strips will be fastened directly to the wall, and the hinge of the interior window shutters will be bolted the frame or in the hanging strips, whichever you prefer.
All materials required for the installation of your new interior shutters are available at hardware stores or home improvement centers. So give it a try. You'll be glad you did.
