Installing Decorative Window Film

from: Maxx Home Guides

Decorative window film is a popular choice for residential home owners and homemakers. Most window films are pre-cut and easy to install, which means if you're the least bit handy, you can do it yourself rather than hire a professional which adds a lot to the cost.

Decorative window film can be purchased in bright colors and fabulous designs, with a many choices to fit any window in your house. This product is definitely an innovative and modern solution for homemakers who have a limited budget but still want to have great looking windows.

When choosing a specific design it should be consistent with the design style of your home. If you want a country look, choose a design that best complements your style. Since decorative films are less expensive, they should adapt well with the existing design of the house, a smarter way to going about it rather than trying to change the complete appearance of your interiors.

Decorative window film is relatively easy to install and usually done using the wet method. Here are a few simple steps on installing a new decorative film to your window:

First, make sure the window is thoroughly cleaned by removing all the accumulated dust and grime in the crevices. Next, start to measure the height and the width of the window's glass surface. Make sure you have a half-inch allowance on either side of the film before cutting it, and then you can safely remove the liner of the window decorative film facing upward.

Spray water on the exposed surface that has adhesive and at the same time apply an ample water of water on the surface of the window glass. Once you've completely soaked both the film and the glass surface, place the decorative film on top of the glass then remove the water and air bubbles by using a plastic squeegee. Cut off the extra film with a razor-sharp knife and a ruler and use paper towels to wipe up extra water left in the surface.

Take note that the film usually takes several days to dry before it will completely stick to the glass. If thera are some air bubbles, you can use a pin to pop the air packets.
