Padlocks Get The Job Done

from: Maxx Home Guides

During the hey days of the padlock, they were a great way to keep your stuff safe. Padlocks were usually found on school lockers and they were easy to open as well as long as you rememberd the combination -- then it was just three clockwise turns, two counterclockwise, and one last clockwise turn to hit the lastl number and the padlockwas open.

The combination padlock was certainly popular in it's time, but people started to realize what would happen if forgot the combination. For those with a good memory, it wasn't a problem, but forgetting the combination was bound to happen for lots of people. If you lost the combination, about the only solution was a pair of bolt cutters to cut the lock.

After the combination padlock arrived on the scene came the padlocks we're all familiar with today -- the lock and key. Padlocks using a key were certianly easier to use, since there was no memorizing required. Just insert the key and you're in, as long as you remembered to keep the key with you at all times. Of course, if you lose the key, it's the same routine as with a combination lock -- get out the bolt cutters. The best way to prevent losing the key is to put the padlock key on your key ring with your car and house keys or wear it on a necklace around your neck.

Currently the most popular type of padlock is Master Lock, a brand that's been around for generations. The Master Lock has proven to be the hardest type of lock to break -- even gun shots can't harm these master protectors. Since Master Locks are made of solid, high grade steel they won't give way to a few shots from a gun. They may sustain some damage, of course, but they'll still be there protecting your stuff.

Although Master Locks are the most popular and most common type of padlock, there are many other types available. Multi-Lock, Medeco, and KW are all excellent quality padlocks. These locks feature unique and innovative designs that make it almost impossible for any thief to break them. These padlocks can be used just about anywhere including keeping doors locked, safes locked, cabinets locked, virtually anything where you need to protect your possessions.

Wha't great about padlocks is their affordability and they're available at any department or hardware store. You can also shop for padlocks online which makes it easy to compare what each company has to offer. So, any time you need to lock something up and you require a small lock, you can count on a padlocks to get the job done.
