Wireless Security Systems

from: Maxx Home Guides

It's the nature of our society that crime will always be something we all have to worry about, which makes installing a home security system are a must. Burglars are becoming more common, and so it's imperative that you protect your loved and your possessions as best you can. There are many security systems available and for your home, a there are both wired and wireless security systems, each one with its own advantages and disadvantages and price ranges.

What you discover is the driving technology in wired and wireless security systems are substantially different. Obviously, wireless security systems don't require wires throughout the house, but instead send transfer messages to your control panel with radio signals. When initially introduced, wireless security systems tended to be unreliable when compared to the wired systems. However, that has changed as technology innovations have improved and refined wireless systems, making them an equally valid choice for home owners to consider.

Compared to wired systems, wireless security systems are much easier and more convenient to install since there's no wires. In addition, wireless systems usually save money, time and effort since there's no need to rip up the floors or walls to install wires. However, wireless systems themselves are more expensive than wired systems and you'll have to replace their batteries regularly. Another advantage is that they're easy to relocate if you move to a new home.

Wireless security systems use the same components as other security systems including the touchpad, control panel, cameras, detectors and alarms. They use radio frequencies that are transmitted by the door contacts, windows and motion activated sensors. The touch pads located at the entrances to the home provides activation and deactivation of the system. Should you experience a power failing, a backup system takes over the wireless system and continues to provide security for your home.

To use a wireless system, you simply input the code into the control panel, which is usually done before entering and leaving your home. Once the code is input into the control panel is sends a remote signal to the rest of the system that activates the alarms. The alarm is triggered either by motion detection or a window or door being opened, depending on the system you chose.

If you're ready to start shopping for a wireless security system you'll have several different ones to choose from, many of which you can install yourself. Before buying a system, however, you should consult with a professional who will survey your home and make suggestions on the equipment that will best serve your needs. This may cost a little more but it's well worth the extra cost to get it right the first time.
