Home Burglar Alarm Systems

from: Maxx Home Guides

There was a time when home burglar alarms were only found in homes where people were rich enough to be able to afford them. Nowadays, with prices that are more affordable for just about any home owner, burglar alarms have been installed in more homes of what could be called average folk. A lot of people who decide to invest in a burglar system purchase do it yourself systems they can install themselves. These systems can be wired or wireless, and set off an alarm if an intruder tries to break in or when they're moving around inside the house.

There are two main types of home burglar alarms -- open and closed circuit. Open circuit systems set off an alarm when the circuit closes. If a window or a door is opened, the circuit is immediately completed thus setting off the alarm. On the other hand, a closed circuit system takes the opposite approach. When a window or door is opened, it breaks the circuit and sets off the alarm.

A more sophisticated option for a burglar alarm system is setting up motion sensors. These sense any type of motion within a certain radius to the sensor, and when it senses motion, it sends a signal to the control panel that analyzes it and determines if the movement should be considered suspicious. If the movement is indeed determined to be suspicious, it reacts, depending on how you set it up and will inform the proper authorities or sound an alarm.

Motion sensors are versatile enough to be adjusted as well, for things such as pets walking around or any other activity that's considered common within your home that doesn't signify a burglary is happening. Motion sensor alarms are getting to be quite common and have proven to be one of the best ways to keep your home safe from a burglar, as well as give you the peace of mind of being protected.

It usually best to use motion sensors and magnetic switches with your burglar alarm setup. Magnetic switches protect doors and windows while the motion sensors help protect larger rooms, such as your living room and hallways. Using a combination of the two is always a good idea and will give you that extra protection you might need, especially if you live in a neighborhood that might be prone to potential crimes against home owners.

My might also want to consider an additional option by including a security camera, which become more common in average homes. These can be mounted in strategic locations throughout the parameter of your house and will pick up images in the area where they're setup and display these images on a monitor. You may choose to record the images to a videotape as well, making it a good choice if, for any reason, you want to keep track of the information the camera picks up.

Burglar system are also available from home security companies, as well, most of which monitor their systems remotely and always maintain personnel in their office to monitor the system. If the alarm is set off, the company immediately informs the local police or sends their own security personnel to your home. Therefore, night or day, regardless of where you are, your home is always under surveilance and protected.

Putting some of your hard earned dollars into setting up a burglary system is should always be considered a smart investment. There are many options to choose from so you should have no problems finding something that suits your needs. If you worry about your home and its contents, you definitely need to invest in a burglary system. Considering the potential disaster that could happen if your family was ever the victim of a burglary, a burglar alarm system really doesn't cost that much and will make your home and family much safer and bring you peace of mind knowing you're doing everything you can to protect yourself and your loved ones.
