The Pros and Cons of Working From A Home Office

from: Maxx Home Guides

Working from home continues to become a popular option for those who can make it work, which is especially true for anyone whose work doesn't require them to be present at a corporate office at all times. However, you might be wondering if working from a home office is for everyone? What are the pros and cons of maintaining a home office?

The reality is, the pros of a home office can also be its cons, depending on your point of view. With a home office, you can even work in your pajamas and dress as comfortable as you like, plus you don't have to spend a ton of money on suits or corporate attire.

On the other hand, not having to be forced to dress up and get ready for work in a real office could lower your drive and energy to actually start your work day. Waking up at a specific time in the morning, doing your daily ritual and putting on your office attire might make you feel more professional compared to working at home in your pajamas with tousled hair.

A major advantage to working from home is the elmination of the daily commute, which saves both time and money for purchasing fuel, among other things. You'll never have to worry about getting stuck in traffic and avoid penalties or loss of pay for being late or absent. This means there's less chance you'll get stressed by travel difficulties and reduced danger of road accidents.

On the other hand, if you don't manage your time well you ccould end up getting stuck in your own home for many days. You'll have less social interaction with other people as well as less drive to go out and enjoy life outside of work.

A home office is certainly convenient, especially if you're married with young children. You'll save on child care and you'll be able to spend more time with your family plus do your share of daily household chores.

However, if you not good at disciplining yourself, your family could take up too much of your time which will, in turn, make you less productive in your work. Having a flexible working schedule could also encourage friends to pay you a visit anytime they want.

Working from a home office is less expensive than renting an outside office to conduct business since you don't have to spend on additional telephones, utilities and office furnishings. You can also deduct a percentage of your home office expenses from your taxes.

However, it's possible your home might not be a great place to meet clients. Some may consider it less professional and others may expect lower fees because of your lower overhead expenses.
